Abstract
As technology progresses daily, the data transmission rate of optical networks is approaching speeds of Tbs. Survivability is a critical requirement in these high-speed optical networks. This article examines dedicated-path protection, shared-path protection, dedicated-link protection, and shared-link protection for survivable optical networks. Various protection and restoration techniques have been compared in this paper.
