Abstract
Analysis of Depression level in the adolescent age group of Raipur, ChhattisgarhShahina Parveen, Dr. Namita Department of Life Science, Shri Rawatpura Sarkar University, Raipur, ChhattisgarhCorresponding Email: shahin.78685@gmail.com India possesses the highest number of adolescents in the world, with one out of every five being between 1019 years of age. Adolescence is a critical period characterized by intense physical and psychological changes; thus, it is important to evaluate depression prevalence among them. The purpose of this study is to identify the prevalence of depression among school-going adolescents in a rural area of Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Cross-sectional study was undertaken among 325 students (215 girls, 110 boys) aged 1218 years from higher secondary schools. The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) teen version was employed to determine the level of depression. The data were analyzed using MS Excel. Out of the participants, 45% (147 students) were suffering from depression: 30% mild, 14% moderate, and 1% severe. The study points out the high prevalence of depression, affecting the cognitive ability of adolescents. Preventive actions and awareness campaigns are necessary to tackle this problem.Keywords: Adolescents, Depression, PHQ-9, Prevalence, Mental Health, Rural India
