Abstract
Geographic Information System (GIS) technology integration has greatly transformed transportation planning and management. This research examines the role of GIS in analyzing and visualizing transportation data, such as traffic volumes, road networks, and travel demand. It explores key applications of GIS in transportation planning, including route optimization, traffic simulation, and infrastructure development. Additionally, the study investigates how GIS supports transportation management through real-time traffic monitoring, incident response, and asset management. The benefits of GIS in this field include improved decision-making, greater operational efficiency, and enhanced safety. However, challenges remain, such as data quality concerns, difficulties in system integration, and limited financial or technical resources. The study concludes by recommending future research directions, particularly combining cutting-edge technology like big data analytics, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence (AI) to further enhance the capabilities of GIS in transportation.
