Abstract
Attendance Management Systems (AMS) have undergone significant advancements over the past decade as institutions and organizations adopt more automated, accurate, and secure methods for recording attendance. Traditional rollcall processes and manual registers often lead to redundancy, inaccuracies, and administrative inefficiencies. Modern AMS solutions integrate biometric authentication, RFID-based identification, mobile applications, cloud storage, face recognition algorithms, and IoT-enabled sensing devices to streamline attendance workflows and enhance accountability. These systems also support real-time monitoring, automated reporting, and centralized data access, thus reducing human intervention and minimizing fraudulent manipulation of entries. Despite the growing adoption of AMS, challenges related to system scalability, privacy concerns, connectivity gaps, high deployment costs, and user acceptance continue to hinder widespread implementation. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the evolution of AMS, enabling technologies, operational challenges, and emerging trends shaping the next generation of attendance automation tools.
