Abstract
AbstractSelf-Help Groups (SHGs) have emerged as a significant tool for women's empowerment in India, particularly in rural areas. By fostering financial independence, social cohesion, and political participation, SHGs contribute to gender equality and poverty alleviation. However, challenges such as structural inequalities, limited access to markets, and patriarchal resistance persist. This paper critically reviews the role of SHGs in empowering women, examining their successes, limitations, and policy implications. The study relies on secondary data from academic articles, and case studies to provide a comprehensive analysis. Keywords: Womens empowerment, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Microfinance, Gender equality, India
