Abstract
This study examines the evolving role of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in advancing rural development in Telangana, a state that has seen significant growth in CSR activities since its formation in 2014. With a large portion of its population residing in rural areas facing socio-economic challenges, Telangana presents a compelling case for assessing how CSR interventions contribute to inclusive and sustainable development. The study explores the legal framework of CSR under the Companies Act, 2013, and analyzes sectoral trends in CSR spending across key domains such as education, health, livelihoods, water and sanitation, and womens empowerment. It highlights the contributions of major corporates including Dr. Reddys Foundation, ITC, NTPC, Infosys Foundation, and Tata Projects, and evaluates the role of institutional mechanisms such as the Telangana Social Impact Group (T-SIG) in facilitating public-private partnerships. While CSR has delivered tangible improvements in select areas, the findings underscore the need for greater regional equity, long-term planning, and community engagement. The paper concludes with policy recommendations for corporates, government agencies, and NGOs to enhance CSRs effectiveness as a driver of rural transformation in Telangana.
