Abstract
AbstractTo increase student success, colleges and universities must retain students as long as possible thats the first step. This study examined how transformative learning approaches affect student retention in selected higher education institutions. In this study, the transformative learning approaches examined were experiential learning, critical reflection, collaboration, culturally responsive pedagogy and personalization. Using data from students across academic programs, a quantitative correlational design was chosen based on the theories of Mezirow, Vygotsky, and Tinto. The relationship between transformative practices and persistent participation, academic performance, and graduation were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations, and linear regressions. Research yielded mean results that were very high across all domains, indicating students support for transformative learning. The correlation coefficients ranged from r0.69 to r0.78 (p < 0.001), and regression analysis confirmed that the two approaches predicted retention significantly. Positive outcomes were achieved based on student satisfaction, personalized learning and collaborative methods. The study says that adopting transformative practices into the institutional strategy can improve engagement and dropout rate and further support. Keywords: Transformative Learning and Student Retention- An Experiential Learning Approach
