Abstract
Kalanchoe pinnata, a succulent plant widely utilized in traditional medicine systems across various cultures, has attracted growing scientific interest due to its broad spectrum of pharmacological activities. This review highlights the therapeutic potential of K. pinnata, particularly its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and wound-healing properties. The plant has been traditionally used for managing respiratory disorders such as asthma and bronchitis, as well as gastrointestinal issues like ulcers and dyspepsia. Its efficacy is attributed to a rich phytochemical profile comprising flavonoids, phenolic compounds, glycosides, saponins, and alkaloids. Modern pharmacological studies have provided preliminary evidence supporting its role in promoting tissue regeneration, modulating immune responses, and exerting cytoprotective effects. Moreover, its analgesic, nephroprotective, and insecticidal activities are also being explored. Despite its extensive ethnomedicinal applications, comprehensive clinical trials and molecular-level investigations are necessary to validate its safety, efficacy, and mechanism of action. This review underscores the need for further research to harness the full therapeutic potential of Kalanchoe pinnata for the development of novel plant-based pharmaceuticals.
