Abstract
This research paper explores the dynamic landscape of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) in India, emphasizing their strategic significance in corporate growth and economic transformation. M&A activities, propelled by liberalization, globalization, and progressive regulatory reforms, have become pivotal in enabling Indian companies to scale operations, enter new markets, and enhance technological capabilities. The study delves into the historical evolution of M&As post-1991, evaluates the existing regulatory framework, and categorizes various types of mergers and acquisitions. It also identifies key drivers such as economic liberalization, cost efficiency, and competitive advantage, while addressing challenges like regulatory hurdles, cultural integration, and valuation complexities. Through an analysis of notable domestic and cross-border dealsincluding successes and failuresthe paper assesses their impacts on shareholders, employees, and market competition.
