Abstract
Abstract: -Purpose: -The purpose of this paper is to find out publication trends in Microfinance industry, major contributors to research on Microfinance and expected future themes of research on Microfinance, through bibliometric analysis.Moreover, through systematic literature review study has also tried to find out MFIs contribution towards entrepreneurship ecosystem and SME growth environment, MFIs effectiveness in helping rural poor as well as urban poor, MFIs contribution towards gender parity, significance of government role as infrastructure developer and regulator to complement MFIs growth, possibility of commercialization of MFIs services and current operational hurdles of MFIs.DesignMethodologyApproach: - Our study has used bibliographic data of 2,887 articles indexed in the Scopus database between 1996 to (May 06) 2024. Further 31 articles were selected for systematic literature review. The selection of research paper for systematic literature review was done with the view to find out MFIs contribution towards entrepreneurship ecosystem and SME growth environment, MFIs effectiveness in helping rural poor as well as urban poor, MFIs contribution towards gender parity, significance of government role as infrastructure developer and regulator to complement MFIs growth, possibility of commercialization of MFIs services, and current operational hurdles of MFIs.Outcome: -It has been accepted by almost all experts across the world that MFIs play a significant role in providing financial services to those poor people who do not qualify for bank services,by providing a valuable service of microcredit. Microcredit provide valuable support to new entrepreneur with financial constraint. MFIs is essential ingredient for development of ideal entrepreneur environment in a country. MFIs support not only urban poor but also play significant role in supporting rural poor. MFIs also contribute significantly in gender parity. There is growth of Microfinance industry across world and developing countries such as India, Bangladesh, Malaysia are seeing spurt in growth of Microfinance. Countries particularly in South Asia are putting more stress on growth of Microfinance. Keywords: - Microfinance Institutions, rural poor, urban poor, gender parity.
