Abstract
The freight forwarding sector has among others benefited by increased trade volume globally and initiatives by various governments such as the National Logistics Policy and Make in India. However, it still needs improvement as there are multiple operational bottlenecks such as inefficiency, lack of transparency, and unsatisfactory customer experience. JY Logistics India Private Limited is a medium freight forwarder based in Chennai which provides customer-centric international logistics services such as ocean and air freight along with customs clearance, export-import documentation among others. The company operates in a fast-paced and competitive landscape, juggling numerous documentation and coordination tasks to manage a huge volume, all requiring cooperation from several teams. During the internship, several real-life operational activities looking specifically at the Operations and Documentation department as a Management Trainee were observed, from cargo bookings, document verification, feedback from stakeholders, and customs activities among others. JY Logistics employs a knowledgeable and customer-centric team, but there were some important efficiency gaps limiting scalability and consistent service beyond the daily deliverables.
