Abstract

This study investigated the perceptions of youth regarding youth initiatives aimed at empowerment in Zimbabwe. The aim was to understand how these initiatives influence the socio-economic development and personal growth of young individuals. A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews with a sample of 200 youths aged 18-35 from Bulawayo Metropolitan, Zimbabwe. The findings reveal a generally positive perception of youth initiatives, highlighting their role in skill development, job creation, and fostering entrepreneurship. However, participants also expressed concerns about the accessibility, sustainability, and effectiveness of some programs. Many youths indicated that while initiatives provide valuable opportunities, they often lack adequate support and follow-up mechanisms. In conclusion, while youth initiatives are perceived as beneficial, there is a need for improved implementation strategies to enhance their impact. Recommendations include increasing collaboration between government and non-governmental organizations, ensuring equitable access to resources, and establishing robust monitoring systems to evaluate program effectiveness. By addressing these challenges, youth initiatives can better empower young people in Zimbabwe, ultimately contributing to national development. Keywords: - Youth Initiatives, Empowerment, skill development, Zimbabwe
