Abstract
Performance appraisal systems play a vital role in managing employee performance, fostering motivation, and achieving organizational goals. This comparative study investigates the performance appraisal practices across public and private sector organizations in India. By analyzing multiple appraisal techniques, employee satisfaction levels, and organizational outcomes, the study offers a holistic view of current practices and identifies key areas for improvement. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews, to generate insights into the effectiveness and perception of performance appraisal systems. The findings reveal that while private organizations are more dynamic and feedback-oriented, public sector entities often struggle with outdated and bureaucratic systems. The study concludes with strategic recommendations to reform appraisal practices to better suit modern organizational needs.
