Abstract

AbstractThe main purpose of the study was to explore and investigate the lived experiences of teachers, coping mechanism and insights in handling disruptive behavior of students in language classroom. Qualitative approach to research phenomenological from the 10 teachers in the different schools in Governor Generoso south district on their lived experiences in handling disruptive behavior of students in language classroom were observed: irresponsible talking, physical movements, verbal abuse, and lateness to class. Teachers coping mechanism on challenging encountered in handling disruptive behavior of students in language classroom were to have a sense of humor, established clear and consistent rules, deal the learners individually, and the changing of physical set-up of the classroom. Through their lived experiences and coping strategies, we generate new knowledge in handling disruptive behavior of students in language classroom. Finally, the insights learned from the experiences of teachers in handling disruptive behavior of students in language classroom were monitoring of students activities deter disruptive behavior, organized classroom strategically, rewards and recognition, praised students positive attitude. These themes can be described as inputs in the successful crafting and conduct of teachers training program to capacitate them of the different strategies in handling disruptive behavior of students in language classroom.Keywords: Junior high school teachers, handling disruptive behavior, language classroom, Davao Oriental, Philippines.
