Abstract
The tourism industry is one of the worlds most rapidly expanding sectors and a major driver of economic development, employment generation, and crosscultural exchange. Yet growth often carries significant environmental and social costs, including habitat loss, resource depletion, and community displacement. Sustainable tourism management has therefore emerged as a framework to align economic success with environmental conservation and social equity. This paper synthesizes contemporary research, policy instruments, and international case studies to examine how sustainable tourism can reduce negative ecological and sociocultural impacts while maintaining longterm viability.Adopting a multidisciplinary, deskbased approach, we analyse core concepts, stakeholder engagement, cultural preservation, equitable benefitsharing, and environmental protection and assess the roles of governments, businesses, NGOs, and host communities in shaping ethical travel through legislation, incentives, certification, and education. We conclude with actionable recommendations to operationalize sustainability without sacrificing profitability.
