Abstract
In recent decades, India has witnessed a significant transformation in its urban landscape, driven in part by the rapid emergence of shopping malls. This research project explores the phenomenon of growing mall culture in India, analysing its origins, development, and socio-economic implications. With increasing urbanization, rising disposable incomes, and shifting consumer preferences, malls have evolved beyond mere shopping destinations into multifunctional spaces offering entertainment, dining, and social interaction. The study investigates how malls influence consumer behaviour, local businesses, employment patterns, and the broader retail ecosystem. It also examines regional variations in mall culture and the role of globalization and Western lifestyle influences. Using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, including surveys, interviews, and case studies of prominent malls, the research aims to understand the cultural and economic impact of malls on Indian society. The findings are expected to contribute insights into the future trajectory of organized retail and urban development in India.
