Abstract
Loneliness has become a major problem in urban life in an era of fast urban growth and technological advancement. Many people still experience extreme loneliness and disconnection, even in densely populated urban areas where many people are close to one another. This study examines the causes, demographics, and social impacts of urban loneliness from a sociological point of view. It looks at how factors like migration, digital technology, high population density, housing design, and work-focused lifestyles erode deep social ties. The research has a special focus on vulnerable groups such as the elderly, young people, working professionals and single parents. It also considers the psychological, physical and social impacts of loneliness and offers a wide range of solutions through policy change, community organizing and urban design. Drawing on international examples and theoretical models, the study underlines the imperative to rethink urban spaces to promote true human connection and happiness.
