Abstract
This research investigates the performance of optical amplifiers in multi-channel Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) systems operating at data rates (16 10). The study focuses on three types of amplifiers, namely Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs), Raman amplifiers, and Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOAs), and compares their effectiveness in terms of transmission distance and dispersion, considering the presence of nonlinearities. When operating with a dispersion of 2 psnmkm and a lower number of channels, the SOA exhibits superior performance due to its reduced gain saturation issues. However, as the number of channels increases, the SOA experiences challenges arising from cross gain modulation, cross phase modulation, and four-wave mixing.
