Abstract
Living in a boys hostel is often seen as an exciting journey filled with independence, new friendships, and exposure to diverse experiences. However, behind this excitement lies a range of challenges that directly affect the daily lives, emotional well-being, and academic performance of residents. Hostel life is marked by adjustment issues such as limited privacy, homesickness, and the struggle to adapt to new routines. Interpersonal conflicts, noise, and lack of personal space often create tension among roommates. Financial constraints and limited facilities, such as overcrowded rooms, inadequate food quality, or poor sanitation, add to the difficulties. Moreover, young men living away from family often face mental health challenges like stress, loneliness, and peer pressure, which are rarely addressed openly due to stigma. Despite these struggles, hostel life also becomes a learning ground where students develop resilience, self-discipline, and social skills. This paper aims to highlight the human side of hostel experiencesgoing beyond infrastructure to understand the emotional, social, and psychological hurdles that shape the lives of boys living in hostels.
